In 2018, he received a full scholarship from the Sphinx Organization to pursue a Master of Music degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with Maestro Derek Zadinsky, co-principal bassist of The Cleveland Orchestra.

Benjamin made his solo debut in 2008 with the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra, performing Dragonetti’s Concerto in A major under Eugene Kohn. A year later, he won second prize at the prestigious Sphinx Competition in the United States, which led to a solo performance with the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra in Detroit. He went on to become a semifinalist at the International Johann Matthias Sperger Double Bass Competition in Germany (2012), received an Honorary Diploma at the Kharkiv Assemblies International Music Competition in Ukraine (2020), and in 2023 was selected as winner of the soloist competition of the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra, performing Giovanni Bottesini’s Second Concerto with the orchestra in 2024 under the direction of Maestro Noam Zur.

His career has brought him to renowned stages around the world, including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Peter Jay Sharp Theatre, and Alice Tully Hall in New York City; Palacio de Bellas Artes and Sala Nezahualcóyotl in Mexico City; the New World Center in Miami; Harris Theatre in Chicago; Terrace Theatre at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.; the Ordway Center in Saint Paul; and the Municipal Theatre of São Paulo in Brazil, among many others.

Benjamin has held principal bass positions with The Juilliard Orchestra, CIM Orchestra, Orquesta Juvenil de las Américas, Sphinx Chamber Orchestra, and The Sphinx Virtuosi. He has also been part of the bass sections of the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, the Minería Symphony Orchestra, Stamford Symphony in Connecticut, and is currently a member of the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra.

As a member of the Sphinx Organization and principal bassist of the Sphinx Virtuosi, he has been deeply involved in educational outreach, bringing music to institutions such as the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, University of Florida, Oberlin College, Bucknell University, Luther College, University of Iowa, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Cleveland Institute of Music, Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Bowdoin College, and the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, among others.

In addition to his performing career, Benjamin is dedicated to teaching and mentoring the next generation of musicians. He was recently appointed as Double Bass Professor in the new Master’s Degree Program in Music Performance at the Faculty of Music of the Universidad Veracruzana, where he also serves as Professor of Ensembles in the Master’s Degree Program in Collaborative Performance.

Beyond his career on stage, Benjamin is driven by a deep belief in the power of music as a universal language—one that bridges cultures, awakens emotions, and speaks directly to the human spirit. Through performance and teaching, he seeks not only to share the depth of his instrument, but also to inspire others to discover their own voice through music.
